First things first, the Eagles blew out the Chiefs. Don't let a few late touchdowns by the Chiefs fool you. It was a beatdown. Two years ago, the Eagles were edged out of Super Bowl glory by the Chiefs. They got close to the mountaintop and said, "We'll be back." Congratulations to the Eagles. Could this be the start of a new football dynasty?
Speaking of dynasties, my dynasty hit its 65th milestone this weekend, so we celebrated in Biloxi. It's a quaint seaside town off the Gulf that I've been dying to revisit. The weather was a balmy 70 degrees. Not exactly beach weather, but the sun poked its head out every once in a while and the water wasn't frigid. In the photo below, I've got the beach practically to myself.
But, of course, the best reason to go to Biloxi this weekend was to enjoy some Super Bowl activities...up close and personal. I owed it to It's NFL Time, I figured. So, off we went to the Superdome, just an hour's drive from Biloxi. The plan was to wave to the players on their way to the game and hope someone would take pity on us and invite us in. That's the way it happens in the movies, isn't it?
But getting close to the Eagles hotel was like breaking into Fort Knox. (Do people try that still?) Security included a battalion of armed soldiers. (Let's see KC get through that front line.) The photos below show me fearlessly taking photos of all the machine guns being pointed at me. I never said I was smart.
But the best part of the day was walking hand in hand to the Superdome with my sweetie. It probably didn't help things that I was wearing a KC jersey in the midst of a majority Philly crowd. Most people were perplexed and offered Donna protection against my advances. Others simply couldn't understand how a red shirt could be allowed in a green-shirt world. They stared and asked us, "Why? Do you come from a house divided? You're making him sleep on the couch, right?"
But we just smiled and said, "Love conquers all." And the best proof came when someone called out to me. I turned around to find another couple, dressed just like us, her in a Hurts jersey, him in a Mahomes. I think there might be hope for this world after all. But I still hid behind Donna when Eagles fans got too curious.
It was a memorable birthday. And, no, we didn't get our free Super Bowl tickets. But some experiences are priceless for the company we keep. Thanks, Donna. So long NFL.
